Oh dear. The FoxClocks 2012e time zone database has a number of incorrect country codes, causing FoxClocks to display the wrong flag in some cases.
I’ve pushed out an update to the database, 2012e-1, which fixes this. You can manually update to the new database from the Time Zone Data tab of the Options Window, or wait for FoxClocks’ automated weekly check.
How to upset people
It turns out that this was a bug not in FoxClocks itself, but in the Java program that generates the FoxClocks database from the underlying IANA tz data. Deep in the IANA data some zones are ‘linked’ to others, for example:
Link Europe/Belgrade Europe/Ljubljana # Slovenia
Link Europe/Belgrade Europe/Podgorica # Montenegro
Link Europe/Belgrade Europe/Sarajevo # Bosnia and Herzegovina
Link Europe/Belgrade Europe/Skopje # Macedonia
Link Europe/Belgrade Europe/Zagreb # Croatia
and
Link Europe/London Europe/Jersey
Link Europe/London Europe/Guernsey
Link Europe/London Europe/Isle_of_Man
Unfortunately the Java program followed these links for the purpose of calculating country codes, rather than just for calculating daylight saving changes. And so anyone who had a Slovenian, Montenegrin, Bosnian, Macedonian or Croatian clock and updated to FoxClocks 3.0.6 saw their flag change to a Serbian flag. A similar issue also affected people with Channel Island clocks – as well as those with clocks for Slovakia, Saint Barthelemy and the French part of Saint Martin in the Caribbean.
It’s understandably upsetting to see your national flag replaced with another, yet most feedback I received was polite. Not all, though, and I’m reminded of a quote by Robert J. Hanlon:
‘Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity’.
i cannot get the time format to show in 24hr format.
I cannot save my selected cities/countries clocks. When I close Firefox and reopen, the clocks have reset to UK, Pacific Time and Hong Kong. These are not what I want. How can I save my selected clocks. It used to be fine, this has changed since I upgraded. Please help.
Hi,
I’m using the version 2.10.85 of the plugin, i guess that it’s because i didn’t update Firefox, the Add-on site always download the same old version.
The problem that i have is that Time DB is not updated, it return “error – try again later”, the DB is 2012c so it’s one year old, and i already have some international call “misunderstanding” because wrong data on foxclock.
Is the DB updated for older version?
regards,
Hi,
i have the same Problems – Firefox 3.6.xx – foxclocks 3.10.85
you can edit zones.xml by hand!
Saludos Andres
I cannot get the flag to *not* appear.
This is because this moronic piece of shite doesn’t know how to set its own options from the user interface!!!
To remove the stupid flag, you have to do the following. In the address bar of Firefox (where you normally enter URLs), enter “about:config” (without the quotes). If you are presented with dire warnings, choose the “yeah, I know what I am doing” path. Once the config page appears, in the Search field, enter
extensions.foxclocks.clock.bar.clock.global.showflag
It’s Value field is probably set to “fc-all-clocks”. Modify it to “fc-no-clocks” (no quotes) and the stupid flag will go away.
To move the clock to the rightmost corner of the status bar, set
extensions.foxclocks.clock.position.relative
to “fc-clock-position-right”.
I figured out how to set up a custom format to the tooltip, but I still can’t figure out how to remove the location from it.
Why, oh why can’t all this be set properly from the user interface of the plug-in?! Why are some programmers so illiterate?!
Vess: ‘Illiterate’ means ‘cannot read’. If you are going to insult someone, use the right word, or you put yourself in the place of the insultee!
Never attribute to malice, that which is adequately explained by pure stupidity.
Problem resizing the main window when the clocks display. Whether it is on top or bottom, it cuts into the main window size and main content is clipped.
Love the extension in Chrome. I have the same problem with the clock cutting into the main browser window and cutting off content as the poster above. This happens on every website and is usually not a big deal.
However, for certain websites such as online banking, the extension goes haywire and takes over 80% of the browser window.
Chrome Version 39.0.2171.65 m
Same here. Clipped at the bottom the exact size of the foxclock-bar. Not a big issue, but many of the pages I use have vital controls at the bottom, such as “save changes” :). I have to guess what to click based on the letters few top pixels.
Otherwise all great, thanks you.
Sigh…. Why can’t people make a simple small thing that actually works as it should?!
All I want is a date-and-time clock in the rightmost corner of the status bar. I do not want half a dozen clocks, I do not want alarms, I do not want flags or any other crap.
There was a wonderful Firefox plug-in that did exactly what I wanted – Statusbar Clock. Unfortunately, it has become “abandonware” and no longer works (or even installs) in the contemporary versions of Firefox.
Somebody suggested that I try Simple Clocks. Well, that piece of crap did absolutely nothing except display an icon.
So, I tried this one. So far, I’ve managed to make it display time and date. BUT!!!
1) It displays a flag. I don’t want no stupid flags! They just occupy precious status bar space. I have removed the location – but how do I remove the flag?! Turning off the “Show flag in statusbar/toolbar” advanced option has no effect whatsoever! (BTW, before I removed the location, it was showing as “null” when I selected my country. It is only when I selected the city instead that it was showing something meaningful. How can you let this thing out with such a stupid and obvious bug?!)
2) The tooltip it displays does not respect the custom data-and-time format that I have configured. (The actual information on the status bar is displayed in the correct format – it’s only the tooltip that is wrong.)
3) I already have one other plug-in that displays information (external IP address) on the status bar. This plug-in appeared to the LEFT of it – and I want it in the rightmost corner. Firefox Australis does not allow you to re-arrange the status bar any more. So, I tried configuring the plug-in to show on a toolbar instead. If I do this, I *can* drag it to the rightmost corner – but then it displays just an icon! No date/time whatsoever!!!
Does anyone know of a statusbar clock equivalent that actually works as it should in the latest Firefox?!
Hey,
Why timezone of India is incorrect ?
Can I manually give time for a particular country ?
The time for Russia (Moscow MSK) is incorrect! +3H from GMT/UTC not +4H….
Moscow time is incorrect
Hello,
I cannot get Foxclocks to work in both Chrome and Firefox. It says the extension/add on is installed, and nothing – it doesn’t show on my browser and the settings don’t hold and if they do the addon doesn’t behave according to the settings – it’s MIA (missing in action!)
Please fix.
FoxClocks just updated and it has disappeared from my browser page. When I open a new page only the flags appear for a split second in the middle of the screen then disappear. What happened???
For some reason, after the update last night…some of the times are off by hours.
(ie Eastern time is 2 hrs behind, Brussels is 2 hrs behind)
Thanks
Some Locations look right then get set to null. Only the name is affected, the flag is still there.
I’m having the same issue as Kim. Except not only do I get null on the location names, instead of an actual date/time I’m getting a shortcut address of some kind with Chrome://Fireclocks as the start of each. Any idea what the problem is?
Foxclocks on my Mac 10.10.5 with Firefox 40.0.3 (and on OpenSuse 14.4 and Windows 7.1)
doesn’t show a large number of TZ/Flag/Location data; it is all null.
I live in Australia – and none of the cities show data.

Thanks for the invaluable service.
Please note that Hong Kong (both the the ‘country’ and ‘city’) are listing in the horizontal status bar as “null”.
On another note, perhaps you could add in the individual countries and capital cities of the UK please?
Thanks very much!
Add-on no longer compliant with Firefox 57 64-bit version. You must work every hour of every day to re-establish the trust lost by the failure to meet the new Firefox requirements. I know, this sounds harsh, but it is in your own best interest and I hear that sleep is over-rated anyway.
But seriously, FoxClocks is the best world time clock on the Firefox Add-on and Extensions list that you’ve probably many people wondering if it will ever come back. Also, I think many previous users would consider a small ex-gratia payment considering how useful, flexible and unobtrusive the facility was. Please restore the global time perspective to our lives.
Very best of luck with the new version!
I agree with Eon…..
Any plan to update this extension to FF Quantum (aka FF57)?
Please release a new version for Quantum
Thanks for the update! I love FoxClocks.
HELLO,
For Quantum, I have the new version but it’s not workin properly since I do not have the full display, but only half of it, the right part and the settinbgs dont work.
Can you do something ?
Hi
How to change the color of cities? (version 4.4.8)
Thank you
Thanks for the quick update
Hi Andy, most of the cities have their national flag added. except Montréal Canada. How can this e corrected please.
Keep it up, I thought it was lost with the quantum update.
Win7 + Firefox 57.0 Quantum 64bit + Foxclocks 4.4.8 + Statusbar Enabled: Google Maps do not load. Other sites like Google Search do work.
Foxclocks 4.4.8 has stopped several websites working correctly in the new Firefox Quantum.
Have to disable foxclocks to make them load content probably
Notably Google Calendar, which is downsized to the left third of the page. Started today after an update to Windows
Latest version has fixed the Google Calendar problem for me in FF 58
Can you please check if this site works for you (using FF 58.0).
https://easyweb.td.com
On my system it keep refreshing. Is it because I have some pre-define users?
Anyway if you could have a look that would be great. Meanwhile I need to disable FoxClock for the page to load properly.
Thanks for your help on this.
Hi,
is there a placeholder to display timezone abbreviation (like CET, CEST) using custom format ?
FoxClocks enabled in Mozilla Firefox Quantum 65.0.1 and Google Chrome 72.0.3626.109 is causing my bank’s homepage not to display properly. Firefox Quantum doesn’t display properly either in a new tab, window and Private Browsing. Currently I have disabled it 😢 URL: https://www.ally.com
Dear All,
I just installed the latest version of foxclock (5.2.5).
I have been able to set a list of town.
But I cannot set the date and hour format, as well as the appearance (bold or colors) of towns, or the foxclock location.
Nevertheless, thanks for this extension !
Well, sorry… after a restart of firefox everything is working well… Strange, indeed.
Have a nice day, and thanks again !
Hi I am unable to open ServiceNow while focClock is enabled in google chrome.
Option window not displayed properly on new MS Chromium Edge. Possible work around?
